Thanks John and Sergey.  It is now working.  I had two problems.

First - I am using an adoCommand component to save the blob field.  The

parameter type was incorrectly ftBytes - I changed that to ftBlob and I was

able to save straight text, but when adding any formatting, saw numbers /

symbols.

Second - I needed to turn on "Allow adding styles dynamically".  I'm using

the approach from Sergey's Redit demo that utilizes dynamic styles.... and

well, this turns out to be an important setting.
