Installing new versions of RichView: 'deleting' and 'building'

Hello,

I'm installing the latest version of RichView. The ReadMe file tells you to

'delete' the old version and not to forget to 'rebuild' them.

Can I ask that future releases include advice on how to do this for types

like me (very good mahematicians etc. who don't really know a damn thing

about computers and programming, for example)?

The fact is that I don't have the first idea how to do these things and the

Delphi Help file doesn't help (or if it does it is very discrete about it).

It is a grave weakness of the otherwise excellent Delphi Help system that it

doesn't include essential information like this, easily locatable. I had to

ask Sergey, for example, how to include library paths so my projects know

where to look for units not in the project directory, something I had never

been able to fathom - if it's in the Help file then I couldn't find it, and

it's very far from obvious, to me anyway, that you should look in

Tools/Enviroment Options (Compiler Options is where I was looking), and of

course there are dozens and dozens of menus and tabs to search.

Another example of inadequate documenation of essential information I can

offer is the *.DSK file, which should <not> be copied (strange but true -

it's not obvious) if you are copying your project to a new directory. A few

years ago I nearly lost hundreds and hundreds of hours valuable simulation

time because of it: I was only able to recover because I back-up stuff like

that on a daily basis.

In this case my attempt to reinstall RichEdit resulted in me losing all the

RichView Miscellaneous components (I 'removed' the components and deleted

the relevant units from my BPL file) and the moment I saw that, I knew that

probably I will have to reinstall Delphi from scratch and all the packages I

use - it's the only way I know to get a clean slate - and I've had to do it

at least half a dozen times with other people's packages.

Of course I shall try to recover without doing that, but past experience so

far is not encouraging.

So please, next time - tips on 'deleting' and 'building'! Please. Components

and packages are really complicated, and people like me install them only a

few times, so it never becomes second nature - there should be wizards for

them IMHO.
